The Health and Safety Department in Cologne, Germany, has barred the “Body Worlds: Cycle of Life” exhibition from depicting preserved bodies as if they are having sexual intercourse. The exhibit cannot show videos or photographs of the material, either.
Gunther von Hagens and his wife Angelina Whalley show corpses prepared using a technique invented by von Hagens called "plastination," that removes water from specimens and preserves them with silicon rubber or epoxy resin. The cadavers are stripped of skin to show muscles and organs, and are often put in active poses, including playing baseball and football.
Previous exhibits have been met with a mixture of intrigue and criticism, but for years now, the corpses have traveled the world as medical/art exhibits and been visited by more than 27 million people worldwide.
The two copulating corpses are only a portion of the latest exhibit, which covers conception to old age, but von Hagens said he is planning a new show entirely dedicated to displaying the dead bodies having sex.
"Switzerland is the first country that already said from the outset that we could show whatever we wanted," von Hagens told Reuters. "Zurich is ready ... but it's maybe not so easy in every other town. We have discussed whether it is proper to show homosexuality and in what way. This is a very delicate subject."
While some cities have shown the bodies in sexual positions, but covered by clothing, Cologne has banned the material outright, and the Catholic Church has condemned the exhibit as a desecration of the human body. The copulating corpses also were banned in Augsburg and Zurich.

Xpo cancelled, LAM replaces it
UK fetish exhibition The Xpo, scheduled for October 3rd – 4th, has been cancelled by the organisers – however an alternative shopping event has already sprung up to take its place. The organisers of London Fetish Weekend and London Alternative Market have joined forces to put on a special London Alternative Market during London Fetish Weekend on Saturday 3rd (12.00 – 7.00) and Sunday 4th (12.00 – 6.00) October at the National Hotel, Russell Square, London, which will be in a private space with its own entrance.

Regarding the cancellation of The Xpo, a statement on event’s website says: “It with great regret that we are announcing the cancellation of The Xpo this year. This has been an extremely hard decision for us but we feel it is the right thing to do for both exhibitors and visitors. Various factors have combined to make it difficult for exhibitors to commit to The Xpo as far in advance as they normally would. The London Fetish Weekend will still be going ahead with a whole host of events every evening from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th October [and] The Xpo will be back next year on 2nd and 3rd October 2010.”

Porn Week on the BBC?!?!
The BBC broadcast two programmes this week, both devoted to aspects of the adult industry. The first, on Monday 31st August, was Hardcore Profits in which: “Tim Samuels explores the rising profitability and pervasiveness of pornography - how new technology is bringing new audiences to porn and creating powerful new revenue streams for supposedly 'family friendly' phone and credit card companies. At the US headquarters of a popular porn website, Tim gets 'hands on' with their latest technology."
In the programme he tried to discover to what extent porn was contributing to the bottom line of companies such as Vodafone and Visa, as well as some of the world’s leading hotel chains.
He obviously had a generous travel budget; as well as America he visited Ghana, where he met a handful of people who claimed that US porn productions were influencing sexual behaviour, and contributing to the rise in AIDs on the continent.

The following night BBC 4 broadcast the final episode in its Rich Man Poor Man series, called Ben Dover Straightens. A camera crew followed Ben Dover around over a few months and recorded his attempts to make it as a straight actor. The programme began on a high, with him receiving his Services to the Industry award at the 2008 ETO Adult Industry Awards, but then in contrast there were dispiriting rounds of go-sees, acting lessons and auditions.
